CARMEL, Ind.–A teacher from Carmel Clay Schools is in self-quarantine for the next 14 days after returning from Italy where over 30 people have died from the coronavirus.

Carmel Clay School leaders say the teacher met with administrators and volunteered to go into self-quarantine out of an abundance of caution. The teacher has not been diagnosed with coronavirus and there are no confirmed cases of it at Carmel Clay Schools.

There are also no confirmed coronavirus cases in Indiana.

The teacher works at Smoke Row Elementary School and returned from Italy on Friday.

Camel Clay and other Hamilton County school districts say they are sanitizing areas of “high-traffic” and commonly used surfaces like doorknobs, toilets, keyboards, light switches, and phones.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention confirmed at least 80 Americans have been diagnosed with coronavirus. There are about 90,000 people worldwide that have been infected with the virus.
