TERRE HAUTE, Ind – A diversion agreement for a Terre Haute businessman accused in a vehicle title scheme.

62-year-old Richard Turriff appeared in court Thursday on charges of corrupt business influence, forgery and counterfeiting.

Police say that the title department of the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles contacted them because Turriff’s business, R & D Imports, was applying for about 50,000 vehicle titles per year which works out to over 130 titles per day.

Authorities say that no vehicles were seen business’ lot on South Timpenny St.

Terms of the pre-trial diversion agreement call for Turriff to maintain employment, commit no criminal offenses for 12 months, pay $454 in fees and pay over $10,300 in restitution.  If he does all of that then the case will be dismissed.

Police continue to look for a co-defendant in the case, 44-year-old James Passwater. He failed to appear for a court hearing in this case.
