Abandoned Coal Building In Western Clay County Burns

CLAY COUNTY, Ind. –  Firefighters in Clay County were called out to a large blaze Monday afternoon at an abandoned coal building.

It happened near State Road 42 and County Road 500 West in the western part of the county.

Firefighters believe that construction workers were trying to take the building apart by using a torch, which caught coal dust on fire.

The Posey Township Fire Department said the building was once used in the coal mining process for the Chinook mine.
