ACLU Concerned About Jail Population Spikes

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Continued overcrowding at the Vigo County Jail has caught the attention of ACLU attorneys.

According to court documents, as of September 30th, the population of the Vigo County Jail was 359 inmates. It is only has beds for 268.

The jail is not consistently over the limit but has had spiked at over 320 inmates at least three times since the end of June.

County officials are scheduled to appear before a federal judge on November 6th to discuss conditions, the number of jailers on staff and the population.
