VIGO COUNTY, Ind – Wednesday evening at the Vigo County Area Plan Commission’s January meeting the commission voted to approve two developments.

The first, a subdivision of the 127-acre former Pfizer property in southern Vigo County.

Saturn Petcare plans to convert the property and begin production of wet dog food in the first quarter of 2020.

The company paid $1 for the property in exchange for the company’s promise to invest $39 million in the project and create 200 jobs within five years.

Saturn will only use about seven acres of the property with the remaining 120 acres still owned by the county for possible future development.

Also at Wednesday’s meeting, the commission approved the division of property on North Clinton St. A new Dollar General Store is being built on the site.

Several area residents are not in favor of the development and have signed petitions against the store.

Officials have stated that the property was properly zoned and that the commission simply approved the separation of property not used for the store into a separate parcel for possible future development.

The store itself is nearly built and could be open in a couple of months.
