TERRE HAUTE, Ind – Terre Haute Police and other agencies are continuing to work to recover the body of a person from the Wabash River.

At a press conference Thursday morning Police Chief Shawn Keen said that a man went into the water Wednesday evening.

A man contacted police and was distraught and said that the victim was likely his son. The man identified a jacket left behind on the bank and told police where initials could be located inside the jacket.

Originally it was believed that the person in the water was a woman but the man who contacted police said that his son had long hair and could have been mistaken for a woman.

Keen said that the person believed to be the victim did have “issues” but did not release other information or a name.

Authorities are continuing their recovery efforts.
