PARKE COUNTY, Ind – More details have been released in the investigation of a fatal crash that happened Monday on Mecca Road.

Parke County Sheriff Justin Cole said Wednesday that an autopsy was conducted at the Marion County Coroners Office in Indianapolis on the five year old male child.  The boy passed away at Riley Hospital For Children in Indianapolis.

Autopsy results show that the child died as a result of blunt force trauma to the head suffered in the motor vehicle accident.

Cole said that their investigation shows that alcohol was not a factor.

A blood sample was also collected and we are awaiting the results.

Police say that the car was driven by 56-year-old Pamela Smith of Mecca. She is the young boy’s grandmother.

Investigators said that the car was traveling eastbound on Mecca Road when it went off the road, struck a utility’ pole and came back onto the road before leaving the roadway again.

Smith refused medical treatment at the scene.
