Bayh Talks About The Democrat Presidential Line-Up And The Upcoming Debates

INDIANAPOLIS — Former Indiana Governor Evan Bayh is weighing in on the lineup for the first Democratic 2020 debates.

He told Fox News he doubts many of the 24 Democrat candidates will make it to the first votes in Iowa.

“Because they’ll run out of money. That has traditionally happened so about half of them probably won’t make it to the first vote,” Bayh said. “Secondly it’s hard to break through when you’ve got ten people on a stage.”

Bayh expects to see two major tactics in the debate: appealing to registered Democrats with activism, and candidates finding creative ways to criticize President Trump.

He says Senator Elizabeth Warren got lucky in the first night of the debates, June 26th, because she’s facing candidates who aren’t doing as well in the polls, such as former Representative Beto O’Rourke, former Housing Secretary Julián Castro and New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio.

Bayh adds the second night, June 27th, could be a more heated debate because many of the candidates with the highest polls, such as former VP Joe Biden, Senators Bernie Sanders, Kamala Harris, and South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg, will take the stage.

“That’ll be more of an interesting night to look at,” he said. “Bernie could be kind of feisty. Does he give an elbow to the former vice-president or does he just appeal to the left wing of the Democrat party?”

In most polls, Biden is leading followed by Sanders, Warren, Buttigieg, and Harris.
