INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – A bill that would legalize sports gaming in Indiana, plus bring a casino to Terre Haute has passed unanimously out of a House Committee but not without major changes.

The plan is to move a the Gary casinos off the lake and move one of them inland and the other to Terre Haute so that Gary officials can develop an intermodal port facility on the lake.

Spectacle Entertainment owns both casinos.

The Public Policy Committee amended the bill to add a requirement that Spectacle pay a $100 million fee to move the casinos off the lake and they would have to give up one casino license if it is to move to Terre Haute. That license would then be put up for bid.

The amendment also took mobile sports wagering out of the bill.

The bill now goes to the Ways and Means Committee which could reverse these changes and add more amendments. If the bill makes it out of that committee it would then go the full House which could make more changes.

Then if it passes the house it would go to conference committee to resolve the differences between the House and Senate versions.
