WASHINGTON, D.C.–The coronavirus pandemic may lead to new or different policies on how the United States deals with China. Rep. Jim Banks (R-Ind.), says some of those changes should be in how we interact with a country whose number one goal is to dominate America.

Rep. Jim Banks

“One of the lessons that we’re gonna learn from this, I hope, is how our engagement of our economy is with China,” said Banks. He added that “When we learn that the V.A. purchases a vast amount of medical equipment from China, or we recognize that 95 percent of Tylenol or emergency medical equipment that we need in a pandemic is entangled in the supply chain of the Chinese economy.”

Banks said he believes the Chinese are operating with a 100-year mission to dominate the U.S. economically and militarily, and that all of our actions regarding China should be shaped by that knowledge.

“We need to hold them accountable for things like this (coronavirus) to prevent them from ever finding themselves in the role of being global dominant power over the United States and place more harm on the American people.

Banks said he believes the pandemic will also teach us lessons about bureaucracy and government mandates and overreach, and how they have kept us from “responding in a more adequate fashion.”
