Council Moves Forward On New Jail, Adds Location For Appraisals

VIGO COUNTY, Ind.  – The Vigo County Council acted Tuesday night on selecting a site for then new Vigo County Jail.

The council approved seeking appraisals ground at Springhill and SR63 and a small golf course behind the mall but not before adding a site at 1st and Ohio which was a car dealer.

In the past the former car lot was proposed as a location for a parking lot if it was decided to build a new jail next to the court house and city hall.

No approval was given by the council to make a purchase.

Commissioners will have to come back and report their findings after appraisals are obtained.

The county is set to appear in federal court on March 19th to give the court an update on the progress of building a new jail as the current facility has been deemed as unconstitutional for holding inmates.
