TERRE HAUTE, Ind – A public forum was help Saturday morning at the Vigo County Public Library to discuss what the future of the “Crossroads of America” should look like.

The two hour event was hosted by Terre Haute City Councilman Todd Nation (D-4).

Nation proposed an ordinance in January that would modify the city’s zoning to prohibit zoning variance requests for surface parking at 7th and Wabash.

That ordinance will likely come up during Thursdays City Council meeting.

Property owned by the Vigo County School Corporation is likely to soon be for sale and is being considered as a low-cost alternative to building a multi-level parking garage for the Hilton Garden Inn.

As part of the agreement for the new downtown convention center, the Capital Improvement Board is obligated to provide the hotel with parking.

Plans were to build a parking garage next to the hotel but cost estimates came back much higher than anticipated.

Options were discussed including building a parking garage on top of ground level retail space.

Nation plans to present ideas discussed to the CIB and the City Council.
