County Council Approves More Jailers After Six Hour Meeting

VIGO COUNTY, Ind. – The lawsuit over the overcrowded Vigo County Jail was again the main topic of the county council meeting last night that lasted for more than six hours.

The judge in the case said that more staffing was needed to address problems and last night the council voted to approve three new full-time jail positions.

In a summary judgment hearing in September, the judge ordered county leaders to submit a timeline regarding the jail project and the steps the county is taking to address the unconstitutional conditions.

The court wants a timeline for progress on the new jail submitted by October 15th.

They will meet for the first of several periodic meetings with the federal judge in November.
