Death Investigation At Sullivan County Jail

SULLIVAN COUNTY, Ind – Indiana State Police are conducting a death investigation at the Sullivan County Jail at the request of Sheriff Clark Cottom.

Police say that the 46-year-old female was arrested by the Sullivan City Police Department for Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated Saturday morning around 1:30 a.m.

The woman was placed in a single person temporary holding cell equipped with continuous video monitoring.

Around 8:00 Saturday evening the jail staff observed and heard the woman in a state of medical distress.

Jail staff immediately rendered first aid and called for an ambulance.

She was taken to Sullivan County Community Hospital where she was pronounced dead approximately one-hour later.

There are no preliminary indications of self-harm or foul play.

An autopsy has been scheduled for Monday morning (2/4/19) at 10:00 a.m. at Terre Haute Regional Hospital by Dr. Roland Kohr.

A positive identification is expected after the autopsy as well as other information related to the cause and manner of death.
