VIGO COUNTY, Ind – Today (Tuesday 9/17//19) the Vigo County Sheriff’s Department reported that on September 5th an inmate of the Vigo County Jail was released without a court order by mistake.
Vigo County Jail personnel discovered the release last Friday September 13th.
Deputies immediately initiated a search to find 48 year old Gregg F. Shepherd whose last known address is 7123 S. Saginaw Place, in Terre Haute.
Shepherd had been ordered detained on pending charges of criminal confinement, battery, and theft. Two additional warrants have been issued for Shepherd’s arrest.
Sheriff John Plasse says that a review of internal procedures on release of inmates is under way and that he has asked his team to review all internal procedures to determine how this error occurred and to train and implement procedures that will prevent such a premature detainee release in the future.
