Details Released On Homicide That Led To Officers Death, Arrest Made

TERRE HAUTE, Ind – Terre Haute Police have released more information into a homicide that eventually led to the death of a Terre Haute Police officer.

Friday afternoon around 2 p.m. police say that they received information from a witness about homicide at 65 South 18th Street.

Investigators say that a male suspect had allegedly admitted to a third party that he had shot and killed his male roommate.

Officers later found the body of victim in the basement of the home.

Police then began to search for a suspect who was believed to be with a woman.

By 6:20 P.M., the suspect and the female were spotted on Highway 41.  Several officers converged on the suspects in the Garden Quarter Apartments in the 8000 block of Linwood Street.

Eventually within minutes, gunfire was exchanged between the suspect and officers resulting in the death of Officer Rob Pitts.

After several hours, the female passenger, identified as 18 year old Lakrista Julian, exited the residence and was transported to the Terre Haute Police Department.

The Terre Haute Police Department Special Response Team then entered the apartment that was registered to Julian, and found the suspect dead.

Julian was arrested and charged with Obstruction of Justice related to the 18th Street homicide and will make her first court appearance Monday (5/7/18).

An autopsy was performed on the victim of the 18th Street homicide and he has been identified as 26 year old Robert Olson.

The suspect’s identity is pending an autopsy and identification by the Vigo County Coroner’s Office.

The Terre Haute Police Department will continue to investigate the 18th Street homicide and coordinate the examination of evidence and statements with investigators of the Indiana State Police, who continue to investigate the homicide of Officer Rob Pitts and the officer involved shooting.
