FILLMORE, Ind – Dixie Chopper will be ending production of their zero turn mowers at their Putnam County facility.

According to the Banner Graphic the more than 100 employees responsible for manufacturing the “World’s Fastest Lawn Mower” were told Tuesday that the majority of them are being let go as further manufacturing will be done elsewhere.

Art Evans built the first Dixie Chopper on the family farm in Fillmore back in 1980 and since then every Dixie Chopper mower has been made in Putnam County.

Jacobsen, a Textron Inc. company, acquired the company in February 2014 from Evans, his heirs and investors.

The paper quoted state and local officials as saying that the company has not filed notification of the closure with the Indiana Department of Workforce Development as required.
