Don’t Veer For Deer

SULLIVAN COUNTY, IN – Around this time of year, deer are on the move. Car vs. deer crashes increase tenfold. Fortunately, majority of these crashes result only in property damage.

Sullivan County Sheriff Clark Cottom says that when motorists find themselves in real trouble is when they panic, and veer away from the deer. A head-on collision, or impact with a tree is often fatal for the occupants of a vehicle.

Cottom say that if a deer jumps into your path, apply the brakes and hold the wheel firmly. Expect a lot of noise and perhaps airbag deployment.

After impact safely pull your vehicle well off the traveled portion of the roadway and call 911.
