TERRE HAUTE, Ind.  – Area Duke Energy customers are being warned of a new round of scams.

This scam isn’t unlike many others.

A person calls and claims to represent Duke Energy.

They say that you need to pay a bill now and you should pay over the phone.

Rick Burger, from Duke Energy, says that’s not how they do business.

They will always notify customers if they are behind a month in advance before a disconnection and they never ask for a prepaid card.

If you believe a scammer, claiming to be from Duke Energy, has tried to contact you, call 800-521-2232 and also call police.
