Edgar County Police Save Woman From Losing Thousands In Scam

EDGAR COUNTY, Ill – The Edgar County Sheriff’s Department was able to stop a scam before an elderly woman lost a substantial amount of money.

Officers were contacted by the woman who said that received a phone call stating her grandson was in jail in Georgia and that she needed to overnight $8400 cash to get him out of jail.

The woman went to the bank, got the cash and overnighted it to the address she was given.

She later talked to her grandson and found out he wasn’t in jail.

Edgar county police contacted the sheriff’s department in Georgia, and they went to the address given and found that it was a vacant house.

The Georgia Deputy was able to intercept the package with the cash from the delivery service.

The cash will be returned to the victim.
