VIGO COUNTY, Ind.  – On Wednesday the Vigo County Election Board ruled on two challenges to candidates on the 2020 Primary election ballot.

The two challenges involve two Democrat races for county commissioner.

Pat Goodwin is running in District 2 while Steve Ellis is running in District 3.

Ellis filed to have his name listed on the ballot as Steve “Top Guns” Ellis claiming that “Top Guns” was not only the name of his business but a nickname that he was known by.

The board said it was up to the challenger to prove that this was not a nickname Ellis was recognized by and that was not proven.

The election board decided to allow the name to stay on the ballot as Steve ‘Top Guns’ Ellis.

Meanwhile the other challenge involved Pat Goodwin.

Goodwin ran as an independent for mayor last year.

A challenge was filed saying that Goodwin should not run as a Democrat this year when he has claimed to be independent.

A letter to the election board from the chair of the Indiana Democratic Party said that they do not believe Goodwin should be on the Democratic ballot.

Despite that recommendation, the board voted it “is” legal for him to be listed as a Democrat.

The Indiana Primary is May 5th.
