Expert Says Higher Gas Prices Still To Come

INDIANA –The gas average in Indiana climbed to $2.92 Friday, with a national average of $2.93. But, that price, and the price Hoosiers are paying, is not expected to get to its highest point for several more weeks, said Patrick DeHaan, senior oil analyst with Gasbuddy.com.

DeHaan blamed the rise on problems with refinery problems out west.

“Tucson has a pipeline that runs from Texas. There’s a couple refineries in West Texas that serve the Tucson area, where as Phoenix is supplied from southern California,” he said.

While that might not seem like it has anything to do with the price of tea in China, or the price of gas in Indiana, it’s all part of a system where one problem can create higher prices across the country.

“Prices went up so dramatically because of those refinery kinks, that once those issues are resolved that should offset the rise in the price of oil and we should see some relief,” said DeHaan.

He said you can expect relief by June, and the prices may come down out of the $3 per gallon range by July.
