VIGO COUNTY, Ind.  –  Monday night was the first public meeting to discuss the proposed referendum to seek a raise in property taxes in Vigo County.

A little more than 20 people filled the board room of the Vigo County school administration building.

Vigo County schools are losing teachers, students, and money.

Superintendent Rob Haworth gave the same presentation Monday night he gave the school board at their last meeting. He said he wants everyone to be aware and informed on what is happening at the schools.

Currently the corporation has a $30 million cash balance which is expected to drop to around $13 million by the end of the year.

A $4 million cost reduction plan is already being implemented.

Other community meetings are planned for June 24 immediately following the regular school board meeting; July 8 at 6 p.m.; and July 22 at 6 p.m.

All meetings will take place in the board room of the administration building downtown.
