Former Employee Says Too Much Force Was Used On Child At Gibault

VIGO COUNTY, Ind –  State officials are investigating the Gibault School after a former employee made accusations of using inappropriate restraint on a 10-year-old child.

It is believed that the state’s Office of Inspector General has interviewed Nick Sallee, who is an Indiana State University senior who worked at Gibault for about six weeks.

Sallee told the Tribune-Star that he witnessed what he described as two adult staff members placing their weight on the child and also pinned down his arms in a way that hurt the youth, who was face down on the floor.

The child allegedly had great difficulty breathing and was in great pain under the weight of the adult.

Sallee contacted the Department of Child Services through its hotline, but so far there are no comments from state officials or Gibault.

Gibault is licensed by DCS as a child caring institution and a private secure facility.
