TERRE HAUTE, Ind – Three are legislators attended Saturday’s crakerbarrel session at the Vigo County Public Library.

Approximately 50 area residents attended

Topics of interest included proposed hate crime legislation of which Indiana is one of only five states to not have a specific law for hate crimes.

In the past many legislators have said that it wasn’t needed because    judges already have discretion in using bias as an aggravating circumstance when handing down a sentence. Also some have expressed concern over selecting certain groups to receive more protections.

State Senator Jon Ford, Representative Bruce Borders, and Representative Tonya Pfaff were in attendance while State Rep. Bob Heaton, and State Rep. Alan Morrison, did not attend.

Future Crackerbarrel sessions also are scheduled for Feb. 9, March 9 and April 12.
