Highway Flagger Critically Injured When Hit By Car

PUTNAM COUNTY, Ind – Thursday evening just after 7 p.m. the Putnam County Police received a call about a multi-vehicle crash involving a pedestrian near 3037 South US 231, south of Greencastle.

Indiana State Police say that a flagger was stopping southbound traffic for pavement resurfacing. The driver of a vehicle failed to stop and sideswiped two stopped vehicles and hit a flagger.

The flagger, 53-year-old Danny K. Harrington, of Terre Haute, IN. was critically injured and airlifted to St. Vincent’s Hospital in Indianapolis for treatment. Harrington worked for Wabash Valley Asphalt.

The driver of the vehicle that didn’t stop was identified as 52-year-old Jessie D. Parks of Cloverdale, IN. She was treated/released from Putnam County Hospital.

Police say that she tested positive for marijuana and had a BAC of .10%.

Officers say that several alcoholic beverage containers were visible inside her car.

The drivers of the two cars that were hit were uninjured.
