It Appears Jail Site Selected

VIGO COUNTY, Ind.  –  It appears that Vigo County officials have decided on a site for a new county jail.

Tuesday, Vigo County commissioners presented a resolution that would allow for the purchase of the property at Highway 63 and Springhill Road after obtaining appraisals.

The full council is expected to act on the request at its March 12 meeting.

Commissioners first looked at the property in June 2017.

The main parcel in that area is owned by the Harlan and Farmer families and an additional parcel immediately adjacent to the north, is owned by S&G Excavating Co.

Meanwhile, the federal judge overseeing the lawsuit over the Vigo County Jail decided to delay a hearing originally scheduled for today.

The judge said she wants to wait and see how the settlement hearing for the lawsuits taking place on February 25th plays out.
