Iwo Jima Veteran Leighton Willhite Returns To Riverton Parke

PARKE COUNTY, Ind – Riverton Parke High School was, once again, honored to have Parke County native Leighton Willhite, a Marine Corps veteran of the Battle of Iwo Jima, at the school Thursday (4/11/18).

Willhite is originally from Montezuma and is a Rockville resident. He regularly shares his experiences as a tank driver with students across the state.

“Leighton cares enough about this country’s history, and about the young people studying it, to come to our school to share his incredible experience.  He really is an inspiration to us all, and I know my kids enjoyed and appreciated his effort,” said College Challenge United States History teacher Mike Lunsford.
