Judge Wants Jail Site Selected By Mid-May

INDIANAPOLIS – Vigo County has until mid–May to select a site for a new county jail and must supply monthly reports according to orders from U.S. Chief District Judge Jane Magnus-Stinson.

The first report is on conditions at the jail will be do on the 30th of each month, beginning with this month.

The jail is currently being designed to have 504 beds with 140,000 square feet and cost about $60 million.

When financing costs are added in the final total could be just under $100 million.

The jail will likely take just over two years to build and construction could start this fall.
