VIGO COUNTY, Ind. – A community discussion took place Monday night to talk about diversity and inclusion in Vigo County Schools and their aquatic center.

The NAACP sponsored the event.

One point was a lack of minority teachers.

The school system said they are reaching out to historically black colleges to hopefully recruit more diverse educators. And they say they will hopefully be able to take road trips there to try and recruit on scene.

Locally there has been a significant drop in those graduating from local collages with teaching degrees and those that are minorities are from outside the area and don’t stay.

The school system is looking to hire a new diversity chair after the one they had retired last year.
