VIGO COUNTY, Ind – The Vigo County Sheriff’s Department announced Monday the unexpected passing of retired Lieutenant Ron Chickadaunce.

Died early Sunday morning in Regional hospital where he was recovering from injuries sustained in a fall earlier last month.

Officials say that Lt. Chickadaunce started his career with the department on January 1, 1973 where he served and protected the citizens of Vigo County for more than thirty-six years before his retirement on January 31, 2009. Lt. Chickadaunce held many positions within the VCSO but always returned to his love, the patrol division, eventually commanding the day shift until his retirement.

“Ron was the type of deputy we all aspired to be and he taught me a lot in my early career” Sheriff Greg Ewing said.  Services are pending at this time and additional information will be released when it becomes available.
