TERRE HAUTE, Ind – The City of Terre Haute and the YMCA have agreed to a new lease which will mean the re-opening of the pool at the building in Fairbanks Park.

Terre Haute Mayor Duke Bennett said that there will be a new two-year lease agreement between the Y and the City for the building which is owned by the city.

( Mayor Bennett describes the new pool agreement)

The agreement which begins September 1st calls for the city to takeover all utilities for the building.

The Y will then reimburse the city for all utility costs except for those associated with the pool.  The city will also perform all necessary maintenance of the pool.

The Y will supply staffing and operate the pool during the normal course of the daily operations.

The City will begin any necessary maintenance now.

The Mayor did say that the expenses for the pool will be handled through existing line items in the budget and will no affect taxpayers.

The City Parks Board and the Board of Public Works both have to agree to the new lease and that should happen next week.

An opening date has not yet been set.
