TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Some important parts of the downtown Terre Haute convention center have been approved by the Capital Improvement Board (CIB).  Now a very important part of the pre-construction process needs the approval and action by the Terre Haute City Council.

City Council members are expected to vote on vacating 8th street on February 7. But, there’s a second piece of legislation to turn 8th, 9th, and Cherry streets from one-way into two-way.

That second part is something that has been talked about for several years.

Mayor Duke Bennett said at his “Mingle With The Mayor” event Thursday that its more complicated than just changing directions

The Mayor also said that it could easily cost over $100,000 for traffic signals facing the other direction on those one-way streets.

It is expected that the City Council will decide on the request to change the one-way streets down the road after the vote to vacate 8th Street next month.

The next “Mingle With The Mayor” event will be February 21st from 2-3 p.m. at Grand Traverse Pie Company at 75 North 3rd Street.  Free pie is courtesy of Springhill Village.
