More Details About How A Terre Haute Woman Was Killed

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – More information is becoming known about how and why a Terre Haute man allegedly killed a local woman.

Kenneth Pitts is accused of killing Anita Oswald.

He was arrested on theft charges for allegedly stealing cash from her in January 2017.

She was reported missing in November last year and just a few days after the report was made her house was set on fire.

Terre Haute Police believe Oswald came home on November 9th to find at least three people in her basement, and one on lookout.

They believe Oswald confronted Pitts and shot him in the face, but the shot did not kill him. It is believed that he then beat her to death with a hatched handle, placed her body in her own vehicle and then dumped it in a pond in eastern Vigo County.

A witness told police that Pitts was seen driving a maroon vehicle which was the same color as Oswald’s.

Pitts allegedly changed his appearance, obtained fake ID and then fled to the Las Vegas area.

He was found and arrested last Friday by Las Vegas police.

Terre Haute Police are seeking extradition.
