VIGO COUNTY, Ind.  –  A new Vigo County Jail will be expensive to build and it looks like it will be expensive to operate.

The operating cost study released by the Vigo County Commissioners shows that it will cost nearly $7 million annually to operate the jail which is $2.5 million that previously projected.

It appears that some things might affect that price such as 27 additional jail staffers which wasn’t included and utility costs are expected to be less due to more energy efficient measures.

The county also expects to save up to $500,000 on housing costs since inmates won’t have to be held out of county.
