VIGO COUNTY, Ind – The Vigo County Sheriff’s Department and the Emergency Management Agency has added new technology to help them better help you.

Officials now will have access to three unmanned aerial vehicles, also known as drones that can be used for many things, including surveying, search and rescue.

Each device has a camera and thermal imaging abilities.

The UAV’s were purchased without the use of tax money.

The total cost is about $40,000 that includes training on how to fly them.

There will be 18 pilots total, who will finish operations training this month and receive FAA certification.
