Passenger Killed, Driver Hurt When Sullivan County Highway Truck Crashes

SULLIVAN COUNTY, Ind – Thursday morning around 7:45, Indiana State Police and Sullivan County emergency agencies were called to a crash on County Road 700 South, just east of County Road 300 East.

The crash injured the driver and claimed the life of the passenger, both county highway employees.

Police say that the Sullivan County dump truck, pulling an asphalt trailer, was eastbound on CR 700 S when the right-side trailer wheels are believed to have traveled off the side of the road causing the truck to also slide off side of the road.

The driver, 63-year-old Donald D. Samm of Hymera, IN. overcorrected causing the truck to go back across and off the other side of the road and strike a tree.

Donald D. Samm was airlifted with possible internal injuries to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

A passenger in the truck, 69-year-old Larry G. Pigg of Dugger, IN. was pronounced dead at the scene.
