PARKE COUNTY, Ind. – The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) is reminding drivers that the Lyford intersection project on U.S. 41 and State Road 163 will begin Monday, July 23 weather permitting.

The contractor will be closing one leg within the current “Y” intersection through Wednesday, August 8.  Traffic will not be allowed to turn from S.R. 163 eastbound to U.S. 41 northbound or from U.S. 41 southbound to S.R. 163 westbound.  Motorists will be controlled through the intersection with a temporary traffic signal.

The official detour for S.R. 163 eastbound to U.S. 41 northbound follows S.R. 163 to S.R. 63 to U.S. 36 and back to U.S. 41. For southbound U.S. 41 to westbound S.R. 163, utilize the detour above in reverse.

Emergency vehicles will be allowed through this closure during this time.

The purpose of this project is to enhance safety at the intersection.  As part of the project, INDOT will implement geometric and traffic control modifications at this location.  The existing, triangular 3-legged type intersection will be reconstructed to a T-intersection with an all-way stop condition.  A short-left turn lane will be included on the northbound approach.

White Construction Co. was awarded this contract for $1.49 million.  This project also includes a small structure replacement on U.S. 36, 1.72 miles west of U.S. 41. This work will occur next year.

The intersection project is scheduled to be completed at the end of September of this year.

INDOT reminds motorists to follow the posted work zone speed limit, use caution and consider worker safety when traveling through a construction zone.
