TERRE HAUTE, Ind – A project to turn the old YMCA downtown into an apartment complex is moving forward with a few changes.

On Wednesday the Wisconsin-based Commonwealth Companies received approval from the Terre Haute Board of Zoning Appeals on their revised plans which now call for a total of 34 apartments and the addition of a free-standing two-story townhouse apartment building at the corner of Poplar and Sixth Streets.

Construction is expected to take about a year for the $6 million project.

Over $1.5 million in tax credits and other incentives will help to finance the development.

The pool in the building will remain intact but will not be used and will be closed off.
