INDIANAPOLIS – Time is running out on a proposed tax on vaping.

The Senate stripped a proposed e-cigarette tax, and House Ways and Means Co-Chairman Tim Brown says he won’t bring a vaping bill to the floor unless there’s support for a tax in the Senate. E-liquid makers and convenience stores are endorsing the Senate’s call for a study this summer, but Senate Health Chairman Ed Charbonneau says there’s no need to wait — he predicts the same objections would be raised after a study.

There’s been disagreement over whether to impose a tax based on the amount of e-liquid or the amount of nicotine, or to impose a flat tax on the retail price.
