SULLIVAN COUNTY, Ind – The Sullivan County Sheriff’s Department is reporting that this past Sunday around 4:30 in the afternoon deputies were called to the Farmersburg area on the report of a potential road rage situation, heading south on US 41 into Sullivan County.

Witnesses said that one car was traveling in excess of 90 MPH, and running other vehicles off the roadway.

One vehicle was reportedly run off the road intentionally.

Vigo County Deputies found both the reckless car and the one that had been forced off the road near Farmersburg.

The driver of the reckless car was identified as 52 year old Franklin E. Akers of Terre Haute, IN.

The driver of the car that was forced off the road was identified as 20 year old Andrea L. Sizemore of Vincennes, IN.

Sizemore reported that Akers had ran her off the roadway first in Vigo County, and then a second time in Sullivan County, causing her vehicle to collide with a utility pole near Farmersburg and that her airbags deployed.

 

Sizemore was taken to a local hospital to be treated for head and facial injuries from the airbag deployment.

A witness in Sizemore’s vehicle said that immediately after causing the crash, Akers briefly stopped and identified himself as a police officer, then fled the scene.

While Akers was being question about what had happened by real officers, Akers admitted that he had falsely claimed he was a police officer, and said he “was just being stupid.”

Police also say that Akers had been arrested last month in Vigo County for impersonating a law enforcement officer.

Akers was taken into custody by on charges of Reckless Driving, Criminal Recklessness resulting in Bodily Injury, Leaving the Scene of a Personal Injury Crash, and Impersonating a Law Enforcement Officer.

Akers is being held on $16,000. Bond with no ten percent allowed.
