Students Will Not Automatically Be Sent Home For Lice

VIGO COUNTY, Ind. – There’s a new policy pertaining to head lice in Vigo County Schools.

The new policy states students will not be excluded from school for having head lice.

Experts say head lice are not a health hazard or a sign of poor hygiene.

Lice are described as tiny, wingless, parasitic insects that feed on blood.

School nurses will have the authority to exclude a child with repeated infestations or lack of adequate care.

Officials warn children should not share personal items like combs, brushes, or hats.
