Sullivan County Sheriff, Humane Society Warn Of Possible Scam

SULLIVAN COUNTY, Ind – Officials with the Sullivan County Humane Society and the Sheriffs office are warning of a scam.

Officials say that a woman, introducing herself as Elizabeth, visited a home in Sullivan County and identified herself as a Humane Society Employee and threatened to remove dogs from a home.

She was allegedly driving a red van.

The Humane Society says that they have no employee named Elizabeth and that all Animal Control Officers will be required to wear their Shelter shirt while visiting a residence regarding animal welfare, be in the shelter vehicle or will be accompanied by police.

Officials say that they do perform welfare and abuse checks that might lead to removal of animals.

If you question any Animal Control Officer visiting your property please ask for proof of identification and please be respectful as they are only following up on concerns from the county or citizens.

If you have been visited by this women, please contact HSSC at 812-268-4201 and inform us immediately.
