Sullivan Man Charged With Kidnapping

SULLIVAN COUNTY, IN – Sullivan County Sheriff’s investigators worked all day Thursday investigating a kidnapping that happened after midnight on Thursday morning (7/11/19).

The preliminary investigation shows that an adult male was taken by force from his residence; just south of Sullivan.

The victim, 28 year old Robert Nagy of Sullivan, was forced into the trunk of a car, and then taken to a rural area, where he was severely beaten and struck in the head with a hatchet.
Nagy was later treated for serious head and facial injuries, at Terre Haute Regional Hospital. He will receive further treatment at an Indianapolis hospital.

After a foot search with K9’s and drones, Vigo County Sheriff’s officials located 28 year old Michael L. Scott in southern Vigo County near railroad tracks close to Oregon Church Road.

Scott is now being held in the Sullivan County Jail on kidnapping charges.

Police learned a female, who was not a willing participant in the kidnapping, had also been in the vehicle, and was also battered by Scott following the kidnapping.

The female jumped from the car near US41 and Harlan Road in Vigo County. She then flagged down a passerby, who gave her a ride to the Terre Haute Police Department.  She was not seriously injured.

Scott kept driving and crashed his car near Boot City, on US41 South. He then fled on foot.

After Sullivan County Sheriff’s investigators conferred with Sullivan County Prosecutor Ann Smith Mischler, Michael Scott was charged with:

Kidnapping – a level 3 felony,

Criminal Confinement – a level 3 felony,

Aggravated Battery – a level 3 felony,

Battery with a deadly weapon – a level 5 felony,

Intimidation – a level 5 felony.

 

Scott remains in the Sullivan County Jail under $120,000. bond with 10% allowed.
