Victim Identified, Accused Shooter To Make First Court Apperance

VIGO COUNTY, Ind. – A Terre Haute teen will make his first appearance in court today after fatal shooting Wednesday morning.

19-year-old Nathan Derickson is charged with reckless homicide after he allegedly took out a gun at party and was reportedly playing with it while he was drunk.

Police believe Derickson thought he had unloaded the weapon when it fired hitting the male juvenile victim, killing him.

That victim has now been identified at 17-year-old William Garett Sands of Terre Haute.

The party happened at a home in the Idle Creek subdivision.

Officers say that the several of the teens at the were consuming alcohol.

The identity of the victim has not yet been released by police.
