TERRE HAUTE, Ind.  – The city of Terre Haute and Indiana State University have pledged to try and reduce problems during the schools’ homecoming.

Terre Haute Police called this year’s celebration the most violent they’d seen in years. That’s why City and University leaders are working on a game plan for next year.

ISU President Deborah Curtis says a panel of roughly 40 people including Mayor Duke Bennett came together to discuss this year’s issues with safety and more.

Bennett said that the city would work to enforce the city’s ordinances.

One of the main problems is “The Walk” where participants make a stop at all establishments between campus and Memorial Stadium and have a drink or two.

Even though the school does not sanction the event school officials and city leaders are looking at ways to lessen its effects.

Officials are looking to control the “second wave” of the drinking walkers. For the first time this year there was a second group of people hitting the bars after the first round of parade attendees had already made it to the game.
