TERRE HAUTE, Ind – The Terre Haute Fire Department will soon take delivery of a new piece of equipment.

A $1.4 million Pierce ladder truck is undergoing inspection at the factory in Wisconsin.  Four members of the department are at the factory going over the truck.

Fire Chief Jeff Fisher says that the truck will be displayed at a convention for firefighters in Indianapolis the first week of April and will be delivered to Terre Haute the week of April 15th.  The truck will go into service shortly after that once staff go through training on the new equipment.

The Terre Haute Fire Department has four ladder trucks  with two of those being reserve units. One of the reserve trucks will be sold.

Fisher says that sometimes the reserve equipment will be loaned to neighboring departments when needed. He says that those departments are willing to reciprocate should the need arise. The THFD he said is very fortunate to have adequate backup equipment should the need arise.

The money to pay for the new truck comes from fees paid for ambulance runs.
