TERRE HAUTE, Ind – In 2004 Derice Shane Hammond was convicted of attempted murder for shooting Milton Johnson two years earlier in the 2200 block of Tippecanoe.

Johnson eventually recovered.

Now attorneys for the 48 year old Hammond have asked for a sentence modification.

They are proposing that his 50 year sentenced be modified to GPS monitoring and he be allowed to live and work in Indianapolis.

Under his current sentence he is not due to be released until late 2029.

In court Thursday Judge Roach ordered that he be evaluated for GPS monitoring and has taken the modification request under advisement.
