Traffic Stop Leads To $12,000 Drug Bust

PUTNAM COUNTY, Ind  – Just after noon Tuesday an Indiana State Police Trooper, assigned to the Drug Enforcement Section, stopped a vehicle for following too close on eastbound Interstate 70 near the 30-mile marker.

The Trooper became suspicious and a search turned up over one pound of high grade marijuana, one ounce of marijuana wax, and one ounce of marijuana extract all packaged for sale, along with marijuana edibles. Street value estimated at $12,000.

Police arrested 45-year-old Donald R. Mattonen, of Pitcairn, Pennsylvania on charges of Dealing Marijuana.

Mattonen was reportedly traveling from California to Pennsylvania and was accompanied by his 15-year-old daughter, who was not involved in the illegal activity.

The child was released to the Indiana Department of Child Services of Putnam County.
