LAKE COUNTY, Ind -An Indiana State Police trooper and semi driver were injured when a semi lost control and jack-knifed into the trooper’s police car

Troopers say that just after 11 p.m. Sunday night Trooper Zachary Huston was on the outer shoulder working a single vehicle crash on I-80/94 west near the exit ramps for I-65 when his police car was hit by a semi pulling a box trailer.

The driver of the truck was identified as 55 year old Sukdib Dhesi, of Brampton, Ontario. Dhesi was west bound in the middle lane when he lost control, began to jack-knife and hit the police car.

This caused the police car to hit another car driven by 24 year old Michael Durkin, of Chesterton.  He was on the outer shoulder in front of the police car from an earlier single vehicle crash.

Huston was taken to Saint Mary’s Medical Center in Hobart with non-life-threatening injuries.

Dhesi was taken to a hospital in Gary and was later transferred to University of Chicago with serious injuries.

Durkin was not injured.

Durkin was cited for expired license plates and Dhesi was cited for Unsafe Lane Movement.
